The University of Antwerp has been awarded a 5 year ERC consolidator grant to further look into TAAD (Thoracic aortic aneurysm dissection).
The GENOMIA project will use next generation sequencing technologies to establish additional genetic TAAD causes and observe that in many syndromic and non-syndromic families there is both significant non-penetrance and inter- and intra-familial clinical variation. Identifying genetic modifiers should advance current knowledge understanding, make current treatment protocols individualised to deliver true precision medicine whilst offering promising new leads to novel therapeutic strategies.
